Abstract:

Land use and land tenure in four communities of the "Huasteca Potosina Study Area"; (La Pila, Las Armas, Tazáquil, and Chimalaco). Data obtained from two sources: 1. Participatory research mapping done with selected members of the communities and the UASLP students guide via sketch maps and interviews. 2. Data collected from the PROCEDE lists of land tenure at the beginning of the program (Acta de delimitación, destino y asignación de derechos sobre las tierras ejidales) and updated lists of 2005

"Mexico Indigena" participatory research project (also called "Mexican Open Source GIS (MOS-GIS) Project"), 2005-2006

Supplemental_Information:

Symbology created by Mexico Indigena project team in 2006. Land tenure (parcel) polygons were digitized by "Mexico Indigena" technical staff, using the paticipatory mapping sketchs, made by the communities in July 2006.

Proportions from land use polygons may not be accurate. Parcel polygons were digitized by "Mexico Indigena" technical staff using Procede plats.

Where "MI" appears in the "Source" attribute field by itself, both the location and name of the feature were obtained through participatory field research. The participatory mapping field work included two tasks: (i) the GPS locating and identification of some features by a local community investigator in collaboration with an MI technical staff member, and (ii) mapping features through the combined use of sketch maps and interviews during a community meetings facilitated by MI technical staff. During lab work, MI staff transferred the most reliable data to this shapefile in ArcMap, using the GPS points and georeferenced sketch maps as guides.
